Hello hello hello Current kiddos. As you probably remember, last week we featured the uber awesome urbangypsy, well this week the have the most excellent pjacobs51 and he’s one cool cat. Right now I’m nerding out over his item, “Beyond H2O -Creating New Types of Water” it’s really interesting, so go have a look. But before you do that, make sure you check out his interview below!

Q: How did you find out about Current? What made you a fan?
A: After cutting our cable and getting Direct TV, I discovered Current and all the cool and unusual stories that you usually don’t see on a “normal” television network. Then I figured out why, because it was “viewer created” content! I thought – wow, that’s the coolest thing ever. Then I saw Vicky the Robot and the hourly news, that’s what got me to Current.com. She’s what made me a fan!
Sorry to hear Vicky is not returning, you should keep her, I’m sure I wasn’t the only one succumbed by her robotic synthesized voice. She was a great way to promote your website and I really hate the thought of her being in the unemployment line with all those stinky humans.
Q: Where do you look for stories to add to Current?
A: One of my favs is The Daily Galaxy, they have great writers who can combine both inner space and outer space with diligence. Others favs are Treehugger, Nat Geo, Discovery, Twisted Physics, and if I get a political whim I’ll check out good ole Mother Jones for some outright investigative journalism. But I usually shy away from the big headliners like plane crashes, wars, ect . . . There are plenty of other people that handle those, and that’s not my thing anyway. I would rather get one to think while they are reading, and perhaps (with any luck) change their thought patterns a tad in the process. Sort of like slipping some of that proverbial ACID in your drink, then asking, “so, what do you think now?”
Q: You post a variety of stories (which is awesome!), but is there something in particular that you’re really passionate about?
I really have a passion for Space, Science and Tech related stories, and how they interact or change human behavior, or humanity as a whole. I’ve traveled around the Sun fifty times or so and during that short span of time I have witnessed several prodigious changes in human psychology and culture, involving the worldwide flow of information, major scientific discoveries, and enormous advances in space exploration. We are really living in exponential times, and that’s where I enjoy my exploration. Well that and the great outdoors. (see pic) That’s the summit of Mt. Rainier right behind me. This was about the time I started stumbling around like a drunk, and a physician from France was nice enough to teach me how to breathe properly in a thin atmosphere. So I asked him to take my picture while I was still standing. I love nature, and nature photography, so I’m usually the one behind the camera, except in this rare case.
And speaking of nature, I’m really passionate about the environment also. I’m not sure if I would call myself an “environmentalist” as it just seems totally natural to me, just like eating or sleeping. If you think about it, you take care of your body so it will be there for you to use for as long as possible, and it just makes sense to treat the environment that your body inhabits in the same manner. But it seems there is always someone out there F’ing it up, and our living machines along with it. So yeah, sometimes the foot comes down and I have to say “I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore.”
Q: If you could have one Superhero power, what would it be and why?
My superpower would have to be: “The Ability to Stop Time.” Just imagine (amongst thousands of other things I’d like to do) the legislature you could change right before they voted, you could make Coal illegal, and Marijuana legal. Or place signs on the backs of some these politicians that say what they really are about. And maybe some extra messages on billboards that tell everyone about what’s really in that product, or what was destroyed to produce it. It’s a “Merry Prankster” thing!
Terrific! Aren’t you glad you read that and got to know pjacobs51 just a little bit better? Ok, now you can go check out that item and squeak “neat!” …or maybe that’s just me.
Until next time everyone.
