Hello and happy, happy Friday, Currenteers! In case you don’t remember, we last featured the fantastic Tyrannous. Well, today we have the badass and totally cool Sam_the_Wizer! This is one awesome community member, guys- every interesting and random item that you probably don’t know about, but should? In his profile. My favorite right now (although cringe-worthy) is “Parachute fails to open, Base jumper surives 2,000 foot fall” (I know!).

Ok, so before you scramble to check that item out, along with the rest, take a look at the interview below and get to know Sam_the_Wizer a little better.

Q: How did you find out about Current? What made you a fan?

A: I originally found current while flipping through the Channels one day.  I don’t remember what was on at the time that caught my attention, but I’ve been hooked ever since.

Q: Where do you look for stories to add to Current?

A: I don’t actively seek out stories to add.  If I find something that is not being represented especially related to my locale, Western Colorado, I’ll add it.  Otherwise I just add whatever catches my eye.

Q: You post a variety of stories (which is awesome!), but is there something in particular that you’re really passionate about?

A: I try to keep my eye out for stories related to the Oil and Gas industry in Western Colorado.  There has been a lot of development in the past few years, and a lot of times the locals are being trampled underfoot of these big multi-national corporations.  I try to get the voices of those under represented victims heard.

Q: If you could have one Superhero power, what would it be and why?

A: I know I should have an imaginative answer to this question, but I’m happy as I am.  I don’t think any one super power would make me a happier person.

See? Aren’t you glad you read that?! Now go check out his stuff and then scamper off and enjoy the weekend!

Hello again my lovely, lovely Currentians. For those of you who missed it, last week we featured the terrific bigloutech, and this week we have the completely amazing UrbanGypsy! If you’re looking to be in the know about current (no pun intended) issues, especially about Cuba, look no further.

Ok, but before you go devling into all those interesting and informative items, check out his interview below!

Q: How did you find out about Current? What made you a fan?

A: I found out about Current when I was flipping through channels one night. Then I saw a couple of pods and how short the videos were and I liked it. It was hard to get bored of the channel with all the different types of pods it had…

Q: Where do you look for stories to add to Current?

A: There’s a couple of places I go. There’s the Huffington Post, where I get most of my political articles. Then there’s Queerty, where I go look for LGBT articles and opinion. Lastly, I always enjoy reading Yoani Sanchez’s blog Generation Y where she covers the situation in Cuba. I like to post material from the blog; its a great place to get a unique perspective of the reality in the island from the perspective of a Cuban.

Q: Okay–we gotta ask. How did you pick your username?

A: Haha, well my stepfather one time called me an urban gypsy because I would spend days away from home wandering around with friends and come back days later. I usually use “Duke of Alba” for everything, but I thought I’d give it a rest and use a new username!

Q: You post a variety of stories (which is awesome!), but is there something in particular that you’re really passionate about?

A: I am most passionate about Cuba. If there is anything I want more than anything in the world it would be to see a regime change in my island. Life in Cuba is poorly understood by many Americans and I think I am doing a service to the people in the island when I expose the hardships of living under an oppressive communist regime. I hope I live to see the day my island is free and democratic…

Q: If you could have one Superhero power, what would it be and why?

A: Thats’s a hard one! I used to watch “Space Ghost Coast to Coast” when I was little. I have to admit, he was pretty lame, but he could teleport. I would love to be able to teleport because that way I won’t ever have to pay for plane tickets! Those can be pretty expensive…

See! Ok, now you can go check out all his cool stuff. And, as always, if you bump into on Current, say hi.

Hey there Currenteers! In case you missed it, last week we featured the crazy fantastic jeffissleeping (be sure to check it out for a seriously entertaining interview), and this week we have the mega bad ass bigloutech! I just love that his items are informative AND entertaining. My favorite is his right now (big surprise) is the World’s Largest Sandwich?? Because, really, who doesn’t want some of that?

Enough about what I like, he’s hear what bigloutech has to say-

Q: How did you find out about Current? What made you a fan?

A: I actually just stumbled upon Current when my cable provider updated the channel line up a few years back.  Back then Current TV was just a series of pods and VC2 content with some Google stats mixed in between clips.  I think what hooked me to Current was the variety of topics that were shown and the uniqueness and creativeness of the pods.

Q: Where do you look for stories to add to Current?

A: Pretty much any of the major news sites like CNN, Google News, BBC, plus various tech/gadget blogs like Gizmodo or Engadget.

Q: Okay–we gotta ask. How did you pick your username?

A: Actually, when I first signed up for current.com, the original name I wanted was biglou, but unfortunately that was already taken.  I added the tech to the end because of my job as the tech of an audio post studio.  Now I use bigloutech on all the sites I frequent.

Q: You post a variety of stories (which is awesome!), but is there something in particular that you’re really passionate about?

A: I guess I am most interested in anything to do with computers and new gadgets.  Most of my work day is spent in front of my computer so I am constantly reading about the newest technology and gear.

Q: If you could have one Superhero power, what would it be and why?

A: I think telepathy would be a cool power to have.  It would be interesting to be able to read other people’s minds.  Plus I could steal ideas and be rich!

So there you go guys! Be sure to check out bigloutech’s content on his profile and if you bump into on Current, say hello!

Hello there Currentians! As you probably remember, last week we featured the fantastic jennyschu, well this week the have the totally amazing jeffissleeping. If you guys haven’t checked this guy out before, you’re in for a real treat, go check out his stuff and get caught up and informed on just about everything.

So, without further ado, check out jeffissleeping’s interview, it’s just like him- seriously funny and informative.

Q: How did you find out about Current? What made you a fan?

A: I first landed on Current TV when I was flipping through channels one night. I was initially drawn (stemming from my ADD,) to the shorter length of the stories (what I later deduced were pods.) The quick succession and variation of subjects made Current stand out from anything else I’d ever seen on TV. What kept me coming back was the neutrality of the reporting from shows like Vanguard, for instance. It was like taking a breath of fresh air after years of slants and deviations from the “realities on the ground.” As for Current.com, I love the atmosphere and the willingness of the community to actively share and maturely critique (most of the time.) I think sharing ideas in a forum like this directly makes this country better.

Q: Where do you look for stories to add to Current?

A: I like to clip from various places if only to keep my posts fresh and minimize the rhetorical spin that gets reproduced; there’s plenty of that out there already. I like to stick to newswires such as the AP and Reuter’s. Huffington Post is pretty cool, mainly because it’s a varied, news-clip source in it’s essence. If I had to pick one source though, it would definitely be The Guardian UK. Their environmental coverage is international, inspiring, and second-to-none.

Q: Okay–we gotta ask. How did you pick your username?

A: Well, Jeff is my name, so that was easy. Mom pretty much took care of that one for me! The ’sleeping’ part comes from my narcolepsy diagnosis a few years back. Plus, it’s one of the top 3 things I enjoy doing. I can explore the world, time travel, and visit friends I haven’t seen in a long time, all from the comfort of my bed…or kitchen…or garage floor :)

Q: You post all kinds of stories (which is awesome!), but is there something in particular that you’re really passionate about?

A: My major passion concerns the food situation and the way the world currently is feeding itself. I enjoy growing as much of my own food as possible, only if for the reason that I know where it’s coming from. To me, it’s interesting, and ties into so many other topics. It starts with the environment and the attitudes and policies that we make to shape it’s care; and eventually comes full circle to personal health choices and how I’ll take care of my children one day.

Q: If you could have one Superhero power, what would it be and why?

A:  Ah damn, I gotta pick one!? I’ll go with precognition. Although the responsibility would be enormous, I think that the benefits of doing good deeds and contributing to the world would far outweigh what I couldn’t accomplish with that info. Plus, it would make me a totally kick-ass Current contributor and journalist, eh? Failing that though, everything Superman does.

See? I knew you’d agree! He’s just terrific. So, go check out his Current profile and if you bump into jeffissleeping on the site, say hi!

current in grass clippings and a homegrown 3D promo

// Tuesday, June 16th, 2009 by Mario Anima

Hey Currenteers,

Current community member asherp whipped up this Current station id promo logo, “For you. And the children.”

I think it’s pretty awesome, give it a look:

If you like what you see, take a look through the back catalog of old Current community created promos and logos from over the years. back in May, fawley submitted a Current promo that he worked on for a school using match-move and 3D assets. Another slick take on the Current logo, check it out:

Both asherp and fawley’s contributions are welcomed additions, and if anyone else feels like putting one together please submit it to Current.com and tag it to Current Promos.

Most importantly, keep asherp’s words in mind, “Think of the children.”

A: I am a self-proclaimed news junkie, so I have several homing pigeons that land on my ledge each day delivering me interesting stories.

Q: You post all kinds of stories (which is awesome!), but is there something in particular that you’re really passionate about?

A: Yes, I am a DJ so l love music, but I would have to state for the record that my passions spread equally around music, politics, art and green living.

Q: Okay– we gotta ask. How did you pick your username?

A: I have had this moniker on Yahoo for years. It embodies my riot-grrrl spirit.

Q: If you could have one Superhero power, what would it be and why?

A: Absolutely! I’m very passionate about politics, hence all of the political articles I’ve posted.

Q: If you could have one Superhero power, what would it be and why?

A: I’d love to have the ability to conduct and produce electricty on command. For one thing, I’d be able to save on the electric bill!
