Joss Stone wants out of her deal with EMI so badly that she is willing to give up around 2 million pounds (which is approximately a butt-load of dollars)—and she even wrote a song about it.
Of course, writing a song, begging your record label to release you is nothing new. Most recently, Amanda Palmer performed her song “Please Drop Me” and then asked her fans to post it on YouTube:
Personally, I like to see artists taking back control of their careers, especially in song form. In fact, I hope this trend continues, and people start writing songs to get out of all sorts of contracts.
I’d love to hear 50 Cent do “F@ck da Mortgage” or hear Taylor Swift croon “Seriously, You’re Charging me per Text Message? What do you mean it’s a 3 year Contract?! Suck it, T-Mobile.”
