More tech stories. We need them!

// May 27th, 2009 by Sarah Lane

Hey friends! Sarah here. Sorry it’s been a while since I’ve written. Since moving over to the Tech department from News, I’ve been spending a lot of time watching the kinds of stories being posted, who’s posting them, and how often. And we’ve got a great little community here, but it needs to grow. Every day I see interesting, helpful, even scandalous tech-centric stories all over the web that never end up being submitted to Current.com/tech, and I can’t really figure out why. But I do know that the answer isn’t to just do it myself, because we’re a team here! Speaking of teams, have you followed the @currenttech twitter account yet?

So… I have some fun interactive ideas for all of us here, and I hope to be able to tell you about some of them in detail very soon. In the meantime, I want to ask a question that I know you can all answer pretty easily. You can list your answers the comments section, or even better, make a video response on the story page! Ready?

Q: What are your current top three go-to tech sites online? (Be honest! Oh, and absolutely no Twitter allowed.)

My three:

Techmeme – Great snapshot into the big news headlines, trends, etc.

Mashable – One of my favorites for social network news, new/cool services or apps, and a good community.

Lifehacker – Everyday Windows/Mac/gadget/life tips and hacks. Always helpful and often really awesome!

Hopefully we can get some good ideas from each other. I know I always appreciate knowing where folks are getting their tech fixes. :) Thanks in advance.

I have a growing stable of really quality authors who are thought leaders in their fields, and all of our content is available to be reprinted with proper attributions and link-backs to the author and our site.

Note our recent interview with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

The goal of Information-Security-Resources.com is to help industry stakeholders, government regulators, and the public better understand and address the mounting information security threats inherent in the current financial crisis.

Our concern is centered around the failure of organizations to adequately protect regulated systems and data. Our current focus is on the exposure of private info and sensitive systems during the financial meltdown, including identity theft, privacy breach, info stolen, credit card fraud, and other enormous liabilities.

In addition to the obvious threat to market stability, the financial debacle has the added element of national and global security concerns.

We believe this is the next national security, shareholder derivative, D&O liability, regulatory, consumer product safety, and class-action issue.

We are the new kids on the block, but have quickly established ourselves as one of the top five infosec publishing websites in the world (http://www.postrank.com/topic/Network%20Security).

Our readership is comprised of CXO-level decision makers at Fortune 500 companies, leading industry thought leaders, as well as policy makers and regulators at the highest levels of government (data and references available).

Our distribution channels provide the opportunity for quality material to be syndicated nationally by Reuters, Gannett, IDG (CIO, CSO magazines, and more – as listed at the bottom of our website). Recent examples:

We also have been chosen to provide a custom news feed for the Internet Security Alliance. The ISAlliance will also be distributing our material to it’s huge membership base through their .gov email list server.

We also have a cool widget – flash or Java – which can be adjusted for color, size, slide show or list, and customized for content related to your site. Examples at the ISA link above and top center of our website.

I am a regular contributor to Current, and I invite all to check us out!

Thanks all! I haven’t read Ars Technica regularly in some time. I think I’ll put it back in the daily mix. Thanks!
